Nigeria Council for Theological Studies and Christian Education

The Nigeria Council for Theological Studies and Christian Education (NICTSCE) was born out of a pressing need to address the accreditation gap faced by Theological and Biblical institutions in Nigeria. Despite their crucial role in shaping the country’s spiritual landscape, these institutions were overlooked by the National Universities Commission and the Federal Ministry of Education, leaving them without recognition or accreditation.

In 2020, I, Professor Olowookere David Femi, took it upon myself to bridge this gap. Recognizing the need for a unified framework, I initiated the process of harmonizing a single curriculum for Theological Education. This vision led to the incorporation of NICTSCE in March 2020, with the ultimate goal of securing government recognition for Theological institutions.

After a diligent process, NICTSCE was officially recognized by the Federal Government, with the Attorney General and Minister of Justice signing the incorporation documents on September 11, 2024. This milestone marked a significant turning point in the history of theological education in Nigeria.

NICTSCE’s primary objective is to serve as a vital intermediary between the Federal Ministry of Education and Theological institutions in Nigeria. By doing so, the council aims to:

  • Establish a standardized curriculum for Theological Education
  • Accredit Theological institutions to ensure quality and accountability
  • Facilitate recognition and collaboration between Theological institutions and the Nigerian government
  • Promote excellence in Theological education and research

Through NICTSCE, we have taken a crucial step towards elevating the status of theological education in Nigeria, ensuring that these institutions receive the recognition they deserve.
